Alexa’s Daily Reach Curve - Advantage MSN against Google

Reach is a number which expresses the number of users per million. Alexa considers Reach as one of the key parameter to gauge a site’s traffic ranking. Recently happened to view the comparison of the top 3 giants in the Search Industry - Yahoo, Google and MSN.

Daily Reach - Yahoo, Google, MSN

From the data from past one year, it’s obvious that Google is on a downward trend, especially the last 6 weeks after the New Year. However, MSN continues to be steady till November 2006 and since December 2006 it’s pretty steady on the upward trend. There seems to be a strong correlation between Yahoo’s and Google’s Trend. Except during the November and December 2006, Yahoo has maintained a better traffic than Google.

Though this trend is for a shorter duration, only time has to decide the ultimate winner of the race. So still the race is on.

Innovation combined with value addition to the end users supported by consistent execution would decide the winner.

Auto Deletion of Contacts & Emails from GMail

Around December 19 2006, there were complains regarding the auto deletion of contacts & emails in GMail accounts. A couple of few days later, this was confirmed by Google. Though Google cites a small count as the number of people who got affected by this, the actual count may be higher. Till now Google has not updated its users about the cause of the issue. Though the GMail service is still in beta, because of the reputation of Google, the users have trusted it 100% and used it as their primary mail service, without even bothering to take backup of the data. My friend is one of the affected victims of this incident. All his mails got swiped away and he is helpless now.

This is definitely a big blow to the Google users / supporters to realize that even if it is Google, we should be careful and take backup of your data.

What type of Click Fraud is this?

Aravindhan says :

Click fraud is the intentional clicking on ppc ads without any intention of buying the product or service advertised.

He also mentioned the types and the symptoms of Click Fraud.
I have a question. When we subscribe to Google’s Content Network AdWords, our Ads get shown in 1000s of Google’s affiliated sites. Assume that my Ads get shown in sites where there is no relevance to my products or services (for which I’m advertising). Will you classify this as a Click Fraud? If so, what type it would be?

Which Sites to Exclude?

Through Google AdWords, the advertisers can reach million or end users / customers through two networks. They are the Search network and the Content network.

According to Google - The Google content network is the simplest way to reach millions of high-quality news pages, topic-specific websites, and blogs that web users visit each day. Google AdWords provides Site Exclusion Tool, which aids the user in avoiding their Ads in unwanted sites.

Through a recent update, the users can exclude unlimited number of sites in the Site Exclusion Tool. A critical review is most warranted in order to avoid any potential customer being excluded by mistake.

Without providing a list of sites where the Ads are shown to the users the Site Exclusion Tool would not be so productive as claimed by Google.

How to optimize the landing page?

Two days back, I’ve blogged - For more traffic optimize the landing page. Are you looking for ways to optimize your landing page? Here you are, now follow the simple tips given below:

  1. The landing page should have a crisp and clear message with a unambiguous action
  2. Cluttering of the page with loads of information should be avoided.
  3. The page should target specific, focused and minimal keywords (2 to 3 keywords are ideal for a page).
  4. Ensure that the focused keywords are in sufficient density in the page. Use Keyword Density Analyzer[http://www.rankquest.com/tools/Keyword-Density-Analyzer.php] Tool from RankQuest[http://www.rankquest.com].
  5. To validate your keywords focuses, using the above tool, get to know what are all the keywords your competition sites are focusing.
  6. Avoid Advertisements in the landing page. All your efforts in bringing the traffic would go in vain because your advertiser would flick away your traffic easily.
  7. Be focused in improving your organic search results for the focused keywords through directory submissions and link building exercise.

Though all the Search Engine Optimizer does exceedingly well regarding the point 1 to 6, the success is with people who consistently and persistently focus on the 7th point. The key to success here is in improving your ranking in organic search results.
