Scoble’s ‘Social Graph Based Search’

Robert Scoble through his recent blog Why Mahalo, TechMeme, and Facebook are going to kick Google’s butt in four years explains how the Mahalo, TechMeme and Facebook are going to be leading Google in providing contextual content to the end user.
Social Graph Based Search
Scoble, names this as Social Graph Based Search. It revolves around the trust based fabric built by TechMeme & Mahalo along with the Social Network from Facebook. Also he claims that it would be very difficult for Google to catchup with these new trends because of their size and their current business model.

It’s really an out-of-the-box thinking. Good job Scoble!

What would be the next generation of Computers?

What would be the next generation of Computers? - some what a common question to ask, but a challenging question to answer.
Alvaro Briceno was asking a similar question at LinkedIn.

Internet Mobile: what technologies will prevail and what technologies will vanish without trace in the next five and ten years?

LinedIn

My answer to Alvaro was that over a period of time, there would be a clear distinction between the Home Computers and the Personal Device we use. Where the former is designed towards performance and rich feature sets and the later towards mobility and online connectivity.

Here is what I had answered to Alvaro’s question :

As the cost of the computer hardware is getting cheaper everyday, along with the increase in the speed of the broadband connectivity, On Demand Softwares would be the order of the day (within a couple of years from now). So the installation of the softwares would get vanished.

Due to cool innovations, there would be a clear demarcation between the Home Computers and Personal Computers.

Where the Home Computers would be must more sophisticated in terms of efficiency and performance with a huge display, a virtual keyboard, with voice recognizing capabilities, and many more…

And the Personal Computers would get replaced by the future generation devices of iPhones, which is what Bill Gates refers as the Reality Acquisition Devices.

Many exciting experiences are ahead. Stay Tuned!

What is takes to Achieve? Again it’s a choice

The seed of any achievement or abandonment is “Idea”. All it takes is the excitement which keeps the idea kicking initially. Based on this excitement, we tend to move on and as a result we end up forming some expectation. And it is from here it gets into two lanes. One leading towards achievement and the other orthogonally towards abandonment.

Idea Achievement

After the expectation phase, we land up into something called the mismatch in expectations. You have a choice, whether to get focussed on our idea and move on or getting frustrated. If you get frustrated, negative things gets filled into your thinking pattern. As a result, you tend to alienate from your idea, slowly your initial excitement fades away and slow land up in to abandonment.

To achieve the goal, you are expected to do a couple of things differently. When there are mismatches in expectations, keep focusing on your idea and goal and move on. As you get focussed, you become passionate in what you are doing. Passion is more than love. It is love with power. Once you are passionate, positive things gets filled into your thinking pattern. As a result, you become more confident and you walk on the roads of achievement.

As always, you have a choice here too.

Marine iguanas - Lesson for Marketers

Seth Godin in his blog post - The marine iguana, teaches an interesting lesson for Marketers from the marine iguanas.

Marine iguanas
The interesting lesson for marketers is this: if iguanas had had predators and competition while this was going on, they never would have survived. The barren nature of their marketplace gave them the time they needed to evolve (or as marketers with egos would say, “figure out”) a strategy that worked.

Too often, marketers are drawn to the hot market. The problem with the hot market is that if you don’t get it right quickly, you get crushed. Really big ideas tend to get perfected in the Siberian outposts, the little niches that get ignored (until they get really big). It takes a lot of confidence to walk into a hyper-competitive market with something new. Quieter markets may just give you the cover you need to work out what it’s going to take to make those marketers grow.

A good lesson in deed.
